The beginning of October saw this quarter’s Dlala Nje champions hit the ice!
In collaboration with Supapele, Dlala Nje shows their appreciation for the leaders of tomorrow by offering them a chance to experience something different.
The twenty champions enjoyed a day at Northgate rink – for many of them the first time they’d ever put on ice skates and certainly the first time they’d been at an ice-rink foam party.
“It was wonderful seeing our kids get an opportunity to experience something like this,” said Dlala Nje director Sam Varney.
“Even better was seeing some of them get the hang of it quickly and then immediately help the other children that were struggling. It truly speaks to the values we are trying to foster at Dlala Nje.”
Every 3 months Dlala Nje rewards children that have made a concerted effort to do their homework, attend volunteer programs, show compassion and demonstrate community leadership.
“It was chaos – but chaos of the best kind,” said Simone Frances Eyre Smith, co-founder of Dlala Nje champions partner Supapele.
“Kids were laughing, falling and grabbing on to one another. Every champion was helping the next champion have the most fun they could possibly have. It was an amazing sight to see.”
As the South African school calendar winds up for the year the next Dlala Nje champions initiative comes to an end for 2017 this December.
We’re looking forward to rewarding our top performers as they strive to be the best versions of themselves.
