  • An imported beauty: Jacarandas are not indigenous to South Africa. They were originally imported from South America in the 1800s, but they’ve since become a beloved part of Joburg’s identity.
  • Exam season bloomers: Local students often associate Jacarandas with exam time, as they bloom in late October and early November, just when finals are in full swing. There’s even a myth: if a Jacaranda blossom falls on your head, you’re destined to pass your exams!
  • Johannesburg’s purple skyline: The Jacaranda trees turn entire streets into tunnels of vibrant purple, creating the perfect backdrop for photos, relaxation, and cultural exploration.
